Hey Ben, have you seen any good movies lately? I just watched 'Independence Day' again.
Oh, the alien invasion one? You know I'm not a huge fan of those, Alex. They always feel so similar.
Really? I love them! The special effects have gotten so much better over the years. The way they build the tension is great.
I suppose the effects are impressive, but the plots are predictable. Humanity rallies, a few key characters save the day... I've seen it a hundred times. Studios have made so many of these films.
But think about the different kinds of aliens they've imagined! And the scale of destruction! I think 'War of the Worlds' was particularly effective. They really captured the feeling of helplessness.
I found 'War of the Worlds' a bit slow, actually. And frankly, the idea of aliens traveling light-years just to destroy us seems a bit silly. What have we done to deserve that?
Maybe they're just looking for resources? Or maybe it's just about conflict. It's science fiction, Ben. It's meant to be imaginative. I've always found the concept fascinating.
I guess. I just wish filmmakers would explore more original ideas. Maybe focus on first contact scenarios that aren't immediately hostile. There probably aren't that many new angles left for invasion stories.
Well, I'm always happy to watch a good old-fashioned alien invasion flick. Have you heard about the new one coming out next month? It looks intense!
Ugh, Alex. I suppose I'll have to brace myself if you want to see it.
